I wrote a book because I wanted to let people know they weren’t alone. When I received my diagnosis of DCIS (stage 0 breast cancer), I was shocked because I didn’t have a history of breast cancer in my family. I had never even heard of DCIS. 48,000 women a year are diagnosed. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic And yet, in my 40 years of life, I had never come across anyone who had it.
Or anyone who talked about it.
But once I was diagnosed, I found several people in my life who were diagnosed, went through treatment and were living a completely normal life. These women were friends of friends and mothers of friends. Just no one talked about it.
And it bothered me that there was not a place I could go, a book I could read, or a site I could hear from survivors who were diagnosed. I needed to know I wasn’t alone. I wanted to know I would be ok. I wanted to know about other people’s journeys.
I didn’t write this book to make money. In fact, it cost me more to publish it than I have made. (By the thousands). But its worth every penny if just one person who has been diagnosed, or someone who is a family member of someone diagnosed, is able to feel less alone while they are going through this journey. For me, having scientific data, solid statistics, and hearing from people who have been through the journey before me, helped me feel peace enough to make a decision at each junction.
So, here is where you can buy my book. It is also available as an ebook (cheaper as well).
I hope you find some peace in your journey.
